Great math review for non-math people. July 22, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book was really an excellent review for the GRE general test math section. I really am horrible at math, and I was dreading taking the GRE because I thought my math score would really bring me down. I didn't start using the book until a week before the test (after not taking a math course for two years) and it definitely prepared me. It helps you look for "tricks" in the quantitative section - such as problems when they don't necessarily want you to work out some complicated problem but rather see in simple ways how the two columns equal. This was such a help to me, as I would probably have tried to work out all these crazy problems without realizing there are simple solutions.
The best way to use it is to read the explanations, and then look at lots of the sample problems to help you see how to work them. Some of the explanations I don't think were the best (thus the "4 star" rating) but the tons of examples makes up for this.
I just took the GRE, and I ended up doing great on the math section! When I saw my score I actually laughed because I assumed it had to be wrong... :)
So yes -- great little review for someone taking the GRE general test that really needs to go through all those things (like fractions heh) that they perhaps haven't done in years and just need a refresher on what the heck all that math crap means ;)
Good luck taking those tests!
Underrated August 22, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I strongly feel that some of the reviews of this book posted here are too harsh. Judging from a few of the comments, it seems that some might expect this to prepare them for the GRE Math Subject Test - which is very different from this book's intention, which is to prepare one for the math section of the General Test. The level of difficulty of the problems is not too hard - if you're looking to score a 800, this may not be the book for you - but it's perfect for those of us struggling to get over the 650 mark. The practice problems, for the most part, realistically resemble what one might encounter on the acutal test, and there are only a few GRE-tested math subjects that don't appear in this book. In just over a week of studying primarily with this book, I went from practice tests in the mid-600's range to a 720 on the actual test, so it definitely seemed to be a good investment.

i love, love, love what kaplan has done for us with the math workbook. i haven't taken math for more than four years and so i was beyond rusty, but this book really does what it claims to do: it goes step by step and has easy to understand explanation for every question so even the math inept can pass the gre
DON'T June 3, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Don't waste your time and money buying this book! It wasn't helpful at all! I found that Baaron's Math part is really comprehensive and educative. This book is very easy and has nothing to do with real GRE exam. I would also recommend to subscribe for some internet quiz to do better on actual test. Good luck everyone!
not too great April 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thought this would be a complete math review but it doesn't even go through the probabilities and the questions are way easier than the actual tests. If you have no knowledge of the math part it would work but if you are looking for high math score this is definitely not enough.
