Incomplete description August 13, 2006 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
This edition of Webester's Collegiate Dictionary "book only" does not have alphabet tabs. Amazon's description does not specify that it does have tabs ---- no is there anything about tabs on the edition with the CD Rom. Befor ordering I called customer service and the person who took my call could not give me an answer regarding alphabetic tabs --- I took a chance and ordered, both the customer service rep and I assumed that all distciontary's had the tabs. Beyond the failure to describe the book fully and the inability of the customer service representative to find the information when questioned the book arrived promptly and in good condition. I
CD-ROM stores nicely inside dictionary January 20, 2007 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Very pleased with the dictionary - but mostly I wanted to mention something from other reviews: you aren't SUPPOSED to rip the CD envelope out of the back of the book!
The CD gets conveniently stored in a clear pouch with a flap, which is permanently attached to the inside of the back cover. It can be taken out and completely installed on a computer. Then you put it back into its pouch for storage.
The CD being in there in no way makes the dictionary bulkier or awkward.
THIS BOOK IS GREAT June 5, 2004 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
This item was wicked awesome. It covered all the words I was looking for. Also, when I was watching the Scripps Spelling Bee Championships I could easily find the words. If there were more stars allowed to be given I'd give 10 stars.
Why a dictionary? April 21, 2005 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
In the era of online education, chatrooms, Websites and the Internet, something old has become new again--spelling and grammar. The ability to express oneself clearly, fluently and conherently have become more important, as people use the written language to communicate.
If you want to do it right, get the hardcover, heavy book. The print is bigger, it has illustrations, historical and cultural derivations of words and it makes your work space look smart. It will be utilized by everyone in the house, and it sets a good tone for kids and grandkids alike, about good spelling and grammar.
In for a penny, in for a pound: get the paperback version also, to use on the go and get the thesaurus too.
Webster comes out Fightin'! September 30, 2005 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Like previous editions of Webster's dictionary, this one has pretty pictures, and definitions of most of the words used in the English language. A must read.
