One-stop shopping for your everyday grammatical needs! January 18, 2008 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I recently picked up the BBOG and want to sing its praises! Ms. Straus's compilation is easy to read, technically precise, and packed with useful examples. It's an invaluable reference for practical writing and a great learning tool for mastering those pesky counter-intuitive nuances that separate decent writing from masterful scholarship. I write for a living and soon after buying this book, I condensed my half-a-dozen writers' reference books into one source, The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation. I won't say "This book has changed my life"; it's a grammar book. But it has done one thing - answered each and every one of my grammar- and punctuation-related questions. What more can you ask for than one-stop shopping for your everyday grammatical needs!

I am proud that my book, used and endorsed by thousands of teachers and trainers nationwide, is a perennial bestseller on Amazon. I hope that you enjoy this expanded 10th edition with updated, easy-to-understand rules, an abundance of examples, and fun quizzes to test your skills. I encourage you to use the Search Inside feature to see just how helpful and enjoyable this reference guide and workbook will be for you.
Excellent January 17, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I use the Blue Book in college courses that I teach. I am impressed with the succinct statement of rules and the clarity with which they are written. Students respond very favorably to the book. The carefully prepared exercises enhance learning. The tests and quizzes make it a very valuable resource. I have yet to see anything that rivals it.
An indispensable tool for writers! January 17, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have used The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation over many years of writing non-fiction books, scholarly articles and chapters in edited volumes. I have have found it to be an invaluable resource in my writing endeavors. It sits there on my desk next to the dictionary and thesaurus. Don't leave home (or go to your writing space) without it!
A Gem of a Language Guide! January 27, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have written professionally under deadline for several decades, and certainly could have used "The Blue Book on Grammar and Punctuation" years ago (when presumably it was first offered). If only I had only known! I find this manual to be a first-rate, well-structured, intuitive guide for all types of writing assignments that now serves as a quick and handy reference for me (perhaps on more occasions than I'd like to admit) -- as well as providing an apt shelf companion for my older, dog-eared Associated Press style book. Physically publishing the Blue Book a bit larger than a lot of other, smaller manuals was a welcomed touch (literally), since the bigger format provides for easier, faster thumb-thru access; also, its less-condensed, more appealing layout works well, and speedily -- especially when stress-inducing deadlines loom only minutes ahead. I'm not sure what the first edition of this worthy book was like, but this 10th edition is a keeper. It was clearly created by, and for, writers of the 21st century and for all us lovers of our ever-evolving English language. John Merli (Columnist/Writer)
