The author says, "....Rigid belief is a model of the world that creates mental dysfunction.

"Because our model of the world is always going to be incomplete, and therefore fallible, belief in one model or another (without flexibility) can cause us a great deal of pain."

You don't see that very often in the world of guru's and author's. 1%? Mark Joyner *gets it.*

Better?

Mark Joyner, in his ...interestingly titled..."Simpleology" is actually able to show you how to create and adopt a useful model of life so that you can succeed.

Now...we're at less than 1%...

This book is not a "science of..." in spite of the title. Yes, there are citations here and there but really the science has already been evaluated in the mind of the writer and saved you 200 pages of footnotes.

The text is truly easy to read.

Occassionally it's so provocative you wonder, "did he REALLY SAY WHAT I THINK HE SAID?"

Yeah, he did. This is what a personal development book is SUPPOSED to be like.

The information inside is sound and rock solid and will be just as valuable 100 years from now as it is today.

Simpleology is beautifully illustrated with cartoon's that not only make you smile, but cause you to think and rethink your world.

I guarantee you will not only like this book but you will put it on the "top shelf, left side." It's that necessary.

It's a wake up call that has the success answer inside.

Without reservation, this book has the "Kevin Hogan Endorsement"

3 out of 5 stars Not at all that simple but quite interesting   June 6, 2007

I must admit I bought this book because I think Mark Joyner did a terrific job with his online Simpleology program. I signed up for that program and found it useful, informative and inspiring. Considering the title of Mark Joyners book I thought I would receive an in-depth elaboration about achieving what you want similar to his online program. This however was not the case. And I must admit thus a little disappointing.
Although the book didn't fulfill my expectation I found nevertheless easy to read and the subject it covered interesting enough to read the whole book.

2 out of 5 stars Not what I expected   April 29, 2007

I was pretty disappointed with this book, given the positive editorial and customer reviews -- it didn't in any way make me feel like I was better equipped to achieve my goals in life. The "Golden Rules" are comical, as Joyner pretentiously calls concepts like focus and logical thinking "laws" and providing absurd and unnecessary justification to confirm that yes, indeed, being focused or having a goal can be helpful in getting something done.

That being said, this book provides some basic philosophical schooling that I believe is much needed in our today's society, especially for the less open-minded. I would recommend one of many great books on philosophy before this one (Sophie's World, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance), but for those who have never thought deeply about these types of issues, this book might on some level serve as an oversimplified introduction.

5 out of 5 stars Actually Helps You Focus on and Reach Your Goals   March 31, 2007

The are a lot of books and "systems" on goals, focus, and productivity. I've tried most of them. In doing so, I got "more organized" and had longer to do lists, even got more done - but I wasn't reaching my goals - sometimes I reached goals I didn't even have. Of course, it wasn't the fault of the "systems", but probably that somehow I couldn't properly implement them. For whatever reason, in using Mark Joyner's Simpleology system I have been finally able to make daily progress toward my goals, at an outstanding speed. Once I started the "daily praxis", huge changes began in my life, like continual job leads and a partnership on a screenplay. These changes aren't magic - they are a result of focused attention, energy, and action on my clearly defined targets - which is the essence of Simpleology. I highly recommend Simpleology.

3 out of 5 stars Misleading, but though provoking   February 10, 2008

An interesting read, though the title is slightly misleading - if you're looking for a self-help book, this is not it, search for Napoleon Hill, or Brian Tracey, etc., instead. On the other hand, Mark Joyner does cover some very interesting topics in the context of 'invisible walls': language, self-serving reality, positioning, authority, and much more. Primarily a synthesis of many psychological studies, 'Simpleology' serves as a good and a thought provoking overview.
