5 out of 5 stars Upgrade for an update   February 8, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This newest edition is clearly an upgrade. It addresses citation of electronic (ebooks, full-text online journal articles, etc) and straight Internet sources more comprehensively than the previous edition (which simply identified everything as either CD-ROM or an online source).

Now divided into three major sections--Research and Writing: From Planning to Production; Source Citation; Style--the layout is more user-friendly.

Particularly helpful is the addition of major section one on the research process itself from beginning to end.

Thus, this is two resources in one.

I used this for my M.A. thesis, and otherwise. It is a classic reference. It has all it needs to.

The latest edition of this useful manual is a further improvment over the last edition. It is easier to find information and has additional information that is very helpful.

4 out of 5 stars Amazingly Useful   June 28, 2008

I'm a history minor in college and am starting to get into those history classes that ask for a lot of papers. The teachers said that we would be using the Chicago style to cite our work. A few of the students in the classes along with myself had never heard of the style before so one of the teachers mentioned this book. It helped me so much! It explains what to do and gives examples right away for you to work with when citing work. The only difficulty I had was using the table of contents, but it doesn't take long to work out that issue. Otherwise great book. If you do anything that involves writing when it comes to history, you should have this book!
