Can't live without it. February 8, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Orignally I bought Chicago for a proofreading class that I am taking. It is a book that will stay handy from now on. Anything that stumps you in writing can be found in this book. Whether you write memos, guides, letters, books, or whatever, Chicago can help you.
Purchasing through Amazon.com Makes Life Easier March 12, 2007 2 out of 11 found this review helpful
It was so much easier to purchase this style guide through Amazon.com than any other method. I went to our local Walden Bookstore, and they didn't have the book in stock. It would have taken up to two weeks to order it from the bookstore, and I would have had to make another trip to pick it up. By purchasing with [...], I was able to use my giftcard, order the book online, and have it delivered directly to my house in less than a week. It was SO easy!
Must have reference book for historians May 12, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Edition 15 is a must-have for historical writers, or those who just wish to write better. It has everything the other editions have and includes a section on how to reference online subject matter.
Everything! September 2, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For a writer, the Chicago Manual of Style answers every question about writing and publishing you may have and many more that you haven't thought of. I look up one item and continue reading. Great resource for writers.
Good reference, like the printing March 15, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Many of the other reviewers here have been complaining about the printing and layout. I rather like the layout and think the printing (at least the black) is superb. I think the paper looks and feels unusually good and wish more books would use something like it.Many of the examples are printed in a dark grayish/steel blue. I haven't fully figured out when they use the blue printing and when they use other methods of deliniating examples. For the most part, I don't find it to be too light as some reviewers have complained, although the quality does seem to vary and in some places it is too light or has spotty inking. Content-wise this is an excellent reference and is hard to beat for all kinds of obscure things you may want to look up while writing. A lot of the beginning of the book will not be useful to most readers. It talks about things like submitting a manuscript and "The Manuscript Editor's Responsibilities". I found this stuff to be somewhat out-of-place in a "style" guide. I found the section on Copyright to be informative, however.
