5 out of 5 stars The ultimate style manual   February 28, 2006

I've been a Strunk & White fan, but I have to admit that this manual answers any questions you could ever have, and some that you've never even considered. It will tell you now only the everyday punctuation rules that you should know, but can't remember, but also how to use honorary titles and how to edit American Sign Language (which is something I didn't even know you coul do). I will always be thankful to my editing professor for introducing me to this amazing book.

4 out of 5 stars Encumbered by an incredible amount of information   November 9, 2006

Most people I know who use the Chicago Manual of Style swear by it - I'm still getting used to it, myself. It's certainly thorough, but that means it has way more information than many people will be interested in, and it's a bit intimidating. I've found the index to be not entirely intuitive. But you can't argue with the content or authority. I occasionally flip through just for kicks, and often end up finding rules that make me think, "There's a rule for *that*? Who knew?"

4 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Help   February 6, 2007

The Chicago Manual of Style is an essential reference for writers and editors at all levels. As the standard reference for many publishers, it provides accurate and invaluable guidance for all. The Manual can be overwhelming at first. Once its organization is understood, questions of style, syntax, and punctuation can be quickly answered. Usage examples are particularly helpful. I strongly recommend The Chicago Manual of Style to all writers and editors.
