A must for those in publishing January 12, 2007 I've been in publishing (prepress, from T-square days to Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress) since the 1970s. I layout mainly scholarly publications for university presses and the CMS is as important as an internet connection. I received it in a timely manner and in excellent condition. Anyone serious about book or journal design and compositon (and copy editing) needs this book in their library.
A Perfect Guide for Writers! February 20, 2007 The Chicago Manual of Style is a Perfect Guide for Writers! It has a complete and comprehensive presentation of the different aspects pertinent to writing research articles, theses and disserations.
silver and gold April 11, 2007 I treasure my old editions of this absolute necessity, but always welcome the newer version - perhaps the reverse of the old "one is silver, and the other gold," as said of friendships.
the perfect stylistic resource June 10, 2007 Wonderful and complete, whether you know a lot about style or are just learning.
A life-preserver in a thesis storm June 25, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Be prepared to cross-reference your notes when you decide to use this manual. The contradictions are only on the surface and if one reviews all cases there is a beautiful simplicity and consistency in the system this work out-lines. Better still, for those VERY few cases not covered, the overall system is flexible enough and can show a user how to devise his own solutions according to the Chicago paradigm. This is a must have for graduate students, especially those in history.
