Reading Novels like a Professor August 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having learned more from T.C.Foster about reading literature than anyone,(How to Read Literature like a Professor), I find he does not disapoint in his approach to novels as he again points out key elements to look (or listen) for in a text. While some chapters are a little discursive, his urban-folksy skaz dispels any pedantic intimidation one might fear from such a work. Although his many allusions to classic novels may cause guilt for all the novels one should have read but havn't, this book is a must have for any aspiring serious reader.
lil bit of help September 15, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
this is a little bit of insite into the world of books. not all of us have lit degrees and are limited in our resources. so this was a little gem for me. I think its a handy little interesting tool for a dedicated reader.
Reading Novels Like a Professor November 25, 2008 How to Read Novels Like a Professor is a worthy companion to his first book How to Read Literature Like a Professor. The new one is an excellent read for all high school students and their teachers, offering some interesting insights into analyzing novels. His style of writing is easy to follow and interesting, not a dull diatribe on literature. I may make this required reading for my AP English class.
How to read a novel like a professor December 29, 2008 This very readable, witty book helps novices and oldtimers like me tackle the most obscure novel. I may even try a little James Joyce again. I bought the book for my grandson who is majoring in English in college, but ended up reading and enjoying it myself. I had to buy a second copy for him. My book club will benefit from all the insight I have gained from reading this book. Also I have a new list of suggested reading.
