4 out of 5 stars Would recommend this for anyone considering the ACT   July 7, 2008

I'd have to recommend this book. Remember to practice for this test!

Essentially, the test breaks down into having to answer every question within a 30second time span (they give you about 30min divided by 60questions per test, essentially). On top of that, they make the questions a paragraph long and/or make you need to re-read the question after reading the answers. This all equates to not having enough time (hence their instructions say to "fill in all answers regardless").

Unfortunately, I got this book right before my test date, so it was of little use to me. However, I can see how it would have helped my test scores - I definitely was not prepared for the time-issue on this test as I'm a quick reader/test-taker. I can't help but say it, but it's almost set up so you have to buy this "official" book (hence they get 4 stars instead of 5).

So be prepared and do all three tests in this book multiple times, it'll help!

1 out of 5 stars No different than 2005!   October 18, 2008

The 2008 Copyright Second Edition, Revised and Updated by ACT, The Real ACT Prep Guide, has exactly the same sample questions, tests and test questions, as the 2005 Real ACT Prep Guide. If you have the 2005 Copyright, this new, second edition will not give you any additional, original practice. Misleading advertising.

4 out of 5 stars Great practice tests, -1 star for lack of review material   July 18, 2008

This is the best book for ACT practice tests. for starters this book actually contains 3 "retired" Act tests from the past. For EVERY question it has: The right answer + explanation, and the wrong answers + explanation on why they are wrong.

for those of you looking for more review material i suggest Kaplan ACT 2008 Comprehensive Program (Kaplan Act) or Kaplan ACT 2008 Premier Program (w/ CD-ROM) (Kaplan Act (Book & CD-Rom)) . Not only does it have a ton of review, it has practice tests that are very similar to this book(which means they are also very similar to the real thing)

btw with the help of this book + kaplan i got a 28 composite score on the June ACT (93 percentile)

4 out of 5 stars It helped me - maybe you too   August 22, 2008

I think that this book did a pretty good job helping me prepare for this test. The practice tests are the best part. The rest is okay, but the practice tests seemed pretty similar to the actual test. By using this book, I made a 33 composite on the ACT.

If you would like some pointers or interesting ways to remember hints, try The ACT For Dummies in addition to this book, but not alone!

2 out of 5 stars would look for better   July 17, 2008

I can tell you what this book tells you here in this review. Guessing is ok which they tell you when you take the test. Other than examples of questions there is not much that really helps you in this book. Maybe I'm slow but if I'm going to pay for help on a test I expect results.
