1 out of 5 stars One step backward for our Country   October 7, 2007

Books like this make your realize how one-sided and inflammatory an individual can be in this world. Unfortunately, this will get our country no closer to greatness and only contribute to the continued destruction of our culture, political system and true understanding for all people of this country.

No matter what you think of Ann, the fact is that she is one of the most documented authors I've ever read, and she is very articulate, regardless of how sarcastic she may come across, about each point she makes.

Her book begins with all the ways people (socialists) have tried to bring her down over the years, by twisting some things she says. I think they DO understand her points and the only way for them to counter them is to twist them into something these people know is not what she was saying. Call it old news if you want, but it's a great trip down memory lane.

The book also goes on to talk about how socialists (the name I personally give to far-left liberals) have not a fighting chance, even on a purely philosophical level, when it comes to the political issues of the day.

I guess you could say I'm curious to know how long it will be before someone finds a quote in this book that could, if twisted, be seen as "ungodly," or something of the sort, and try to bring her down for the umpteenth time.

It's been said before, but I think it's time to say it again: it's not lies that really anger people, it's the truth. - Ann -

[To those skeptical of getting this book for fear of getting water-down or old information or opinion on liberal, political theology, don't let the title (or even the chapter titles) deceive or mislead you- it's a very intellectually stimulating book, and it offers more than any leftist book...ever (trust me, I've read everything from Motorcycle Diaries to Lying Liars and everything in between)]

5 out of 5 stars Thanks Ann!!!   October 2, 2007

Ann Coulter has sold many books and there is good reason for it. Her sharp wit totally obliterates many of her critics and this book once again proves that point. For all the times her statements have been distorted by the radical Left in this country, it is better to go directly to the source. In addition, underlying her sarcasim, are many salient points about American politics and culture. If Liberals actually were progressive, they would read her material with an open mind rather than looking for talking points to boost their floundering Presidential campaigns via Edwards.

I strongly recommend reading this regardless of your political viewpoints. It is always entertaining and informative. The Left will never be able to silence conservative view points in this country and let's hope that Ann keeps on keeping on.

Her reasoning for many of the points in this book are based on her wearing a pair on horse blinders. This type of narrow minded opinion can be humorous reading (laughing AT her), but if you are actually interested in issues pertinent to today's world, I would suggest you look elsewhere.

1 out of 5 stars It is Not Nice to Hurt People's Fweelings   March 28, 2008

I read a book each by a conservative pundit and a liberal pundit. This is what I learned:

Pundits are worthless. In fact, they are worse than worthless because they encourage people to do as little thinking and finding out as humanly possible. By polarizing public opinion, they force otherwise intelligent, capable people to choose sides. Instead of educating themselves and coming to their own conclusions about issues that really matter, fans of one or the other spend a tremendous amount of time and effort supporting or refuting their favorite or least favorite pundit. The goal of any pundit is to take the place of the issues and become the discussable topic.

Pundits speak to their choir and say things and say them in such a way no ordinary person would dream to. Thanks to pundits and the people who make them rich and famous, public discourse has become, effectively, an oxymoron. For a pundit to be unbiased would be for that pundit to commit employment suicide. The moment they sound reasonable, the moment they lack controversy, their audience loses interest & they become just another struggling entertainer.

Yeah, I read the book. Every page of it. I can't say that I agree or disagree with anything Coulter writes because I don't for a moment pretend Coulter has any interest in her own opinion, much less mine. The book is little more than a compendium of rants, insults, & made up and manipulated "facts" and generic simplistic conservative understandings of complex situations. The title alone is a dead giveaway she has no interest in being objective or stimulating any sort of fair and reasonable discourse. Perfect fodder for her fans and perfect targets for her detractors.

Coulter is, like all pundits, for herself first, last and always. She's nastier, less reasonable and more hateful than most but that's the way her fans like it. She cheerfully serves as a mouthpiece for her followers and a lightening rod for her detractors because, for a celebrity, no attention is bad attention. All attention is cash and fame to to a pundit. Pundits are like astrologers: anything they say should come with the warning "for entertainment purposes only." In the end, it becomes a chicken vs. egg dilemma. Do pundits reflect public opinion or do pundits make public opinion or a little of both?
